This holiday season, Communities In Schools of Jacksonville (CIS Jax) brought warmth and joy to local students with their Winter Wishes initiative. The program provides much-needed holiday gifts to students across CIS-served schools, helping to brighten their season and ease the difficulties they may be enduring.
This year, thanks to the generosity of 13 volunteers and two local businesses, over 42 students received personalized gifts from their wish lists. The gifts included bikes, tablets, skateboards, Nike shoes, telescopes, and much more, ensuring that each student's unique wishes were thoughtfully fulfilled.
“The students were ecstatic,” said Ms. Faust, the CIS Jax site coordinator at Westside Middle School. "Some students were even brought to tears."
The CIS Jax site coordinators, who work directly with students daily, play a vital role in identifying children who could benefit from the program. These coordinators are in tune with their students' unique needs and home situations, making them well-positioned to select participants for Winter Wishes.
Ms. Faust approached the selection process by having her students complete wish lists, carefully reviewing each one to identify those who demonstrated genuine need and who would benefit most from the items on their lists. One student’s wish stood out to her in particular—a request for a washer and dryer for her family. School administration caught word, and efforts are underway to help fulfill that need.
The success of Winter Wishes is a testament to the incredible support from the community. Volunteers—both individuals and local organizations—came together to fulfill the students’ wishes. Their collective effort made this special holiday initiative possible, creating lasting memories for the students and showing them that their community cares.
