Communities In Schools aims to build relationships that empower at-risk students to graduate from high school and excel in life. Founder Bill Milliken began Communities In Schools in New York City in the 1970s. He strived on never giving up on children and wanted to give students mentors that would lead them to bright futures.

“It’s relationships, not programs, that change children,” Bill once said. “A great program simply creates the environment for healthy relationships to form between adults and children.

Many students deal with situations and hardships that are out of their control. We have strived to give students support through counseling, mentoring, and even emotional support. We will do anything to make sure students succeed. Communities In Schools of Jacksonville has been breaking barriers and building a solid foundation for students to succeed in life.

Communities In Schools of Jacksonville has strengthened and changed the lives of many students in Duval County. Over the past 30 years, we have worked alongside Duval County Public Schools to encourage and empower our future leaders of tomorrow. We have transformed over 110,000 students’ lives through literacy, after-school activities, and case management.

Communities In Schools of Jacksonville is coming up on celebrating 30 years of service within the Jacksonville community. To celebrate, we will be having a gala that will exemplify our dedication and passion to not only our students but to the community we serve. The 30th-anniversary gala theme, A Toast to the Tassel, is inspired by our graduating students both past and present who will be recognized during the event for their outstanding achievements.

We want members of our community, supporters, young professionals, and educators to join us on January 31st at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville. The event will include dinner, a silent auction, cocktails, and an augmented reality experience that showcases our work throughout the years with our students. We want to thank the community for the role they have played in the foundation of our years of success.
