Duval County Graduation Rate Increase

Communities In Schools of Jacksonville is dedicated to keeping students on track to graduation. We are partnered with Duval County Public Schools who recently set a record for the district’s graduation rate. The current graduation rate is at an all-time high with 86.5% of high school seniors graduating in the 2018-2019 school year. Not only is Duval County’s graduation rate at its highest, it is also higher than the national average of 84.6%.

In an article written by the US News & World Report, the national high school graduation rates have continued to increase over the years. According to the National Center of Education Statistics, the lasting disparities between races stay the same as Asian/Pacific Islanders and white students continue to exceed the rates of Hispanic, Black, Native American and Alaska Native students. The graduation rate for students that struggle with English proficiency fell 0.4 unfortunately, while the graduation rates among students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged students are on the rise. For more information check out these student demographics by the National Center of Education Statistics that shows the national graduation rates over the years with their corresponding race and states.

Our students have continuously worked hard to build themselves and the community around them. These young men and women are preparing themselves for their future college and career endeavors. With the national average sitting at 84.6% it is amazing that Duval County has overcome this average and with the help of CIS and community programs support these rates will only continue to increase.

Duval County has been on the climb since the 2017-2018 school year average of 85.1%. In the past year, Duval County has increased its graduation rate a whopping 1.4%. Making it a huge jump to the 2018-2019 school year average of 86.5% breaking a county record. Despite the many challenges students face, Florida’s graduation rates have come out on top with its state average of 86.9% making Duval County the closest it has ever been to the benchmark. With graduation rates at a historic high, Duval County is now an asset in attracting jobs and economic development.  CIS works hard to make sure our students are prepared for life ahead of them. Thanks to the hard work of our students, teachers, principals and Duval County Public Schools the graduation rates continue to rise, and the motivation stays high.
