Local schools take part in national celebration of afterschool programs!

Lights On Afterschool, a national celebration of afterschool programs, was held on Thursday, October 16th.  Every CIS Team Up site held a celebration during their regular afterschool hours to showcase their activities to parents and the community.

The Jacksonville Children's Commission selected the Communities In Schools Reynolds Lane Elementary site for their press conference that evening.  The event featured a welcome from the Principal of Reynolds Lane, performances from the Reynolds Lane Cheerleaders, a poster contest, and tours of the site's academic and cultural enrichment programs.  Special ambassadors from the fifth grade acted as tour guides to groups of guests.  Jacksonville City Councilman Warren Jones was present to read a proclamation from Mayor John Peyton.

According to Eric Johnson Director of Afterschool Division, the purpose of the event was, "to raise awareness about the great things happening in Team Up afterschool programs."
